And Boston Begat Burlington…

Folks!
This weekend Nerdcore Rising had the distinct honor of screening at the Independent Film Festival of Boston. A motley crew of film festival peeps, ROFLCON internet celebs, software designers, and smarty-pants collegiates made up the audience for what was, one of the most unbelievably awesome weekends a movie could ever have.

HIGHLIGHTS
  1. ITA Software:
Our sponsors invited us over to their offices where they violently force fed us delicious free food, evilly gave us ITA swag, and had the unmitigated gall to ask us to promote the movie to their 450 person company! What a bunch of assholes, right? Seriously though, if you know something about algorithms, you should visit their website, and try to weasel your way into getting a job there because I’ve never seen so many happy people… nor have I been privy to so many sys-op jokes.

  2. Dude who paid for a hug:
You see, after screenings, we here at Nerdcore Rising shamelessly beg people to buy t-shirts. For $20 you can totally get a hardcorely awesome t-shirt that will not only cover half of your naked body, but will help get us out of our Bear Sterns-esque debt. One gentleman from the audience, who will hereafter be referred to as “The Sweetheart-est Nerdcore Rising Fan Ever” didn’t have enough on him to buy a t-shirt but instead gave me five dollars in exchange for a hug. The fact of the matter is, my current rate for hugs is $0, so accepting the five bones might be deemed morally suspect. But, to The Sweetheart-est Nerdcore Rising Fan Ever: I don’t know who you are or what you do but I promise your money will go to good use and I promise that your gesture made me feel really happy. Thank you, dude, wherever you are…
  3. The After Party:
Some of our young friends couldn’t get in because of that thing where you have to be 21 to be in the presence of alcohol… and 21 year olds. So, that kinda sucked . But don’t worry, you didn’t really miss anything.  It was only “totally cool” to see MC Frontalot & Prince Paul perform… it wasn’t “unbelievably cool” or anything.
  4. Torrey’s Parents:
One of our associate editors, Torrey Townsend, has parents. And we got to meet them in Boston. And they were lovely! I just want to thank them for giving birth to their son, that kinda worked out really well for Nerdcore Rising.

WHAT IS NEXT?

ADDITIONALS:

Also, a few weeks ago we got a really sweet post from the Humblest Blog On the Net. They usually review sci-fi books but the writer, Skwid decided to do a movie review slash a day-in-the-life-of-a-Nerdcore-Rising-screening type piece that’s fun and should be shared with you all:

The Boston Thing, Please Explain

I believe the Boston situation deserves its very own brief entry as the previous blog (AKA The Bumblingest Blog from the Annals of Convoluted Bloggery) has left some confused. So, here goes:

How to Obtain Free Tickets to the MC Frontalot/Prince Paul After Party at the Independent Film Festival Boston: A Four Part Treaties
  1. Email me by April 22 with your name (“me” being negin and my email address being, the thing you would normally find on the Contact page of this here website)

  2. I’ll put your name on a slip of paper PLUS ONE. I will throw said paper in a hat-like object. Since my original, now notoriously confusing blog entry, I’ve decided to specify that the hat-like object will in fact be the hat I wore when I played the part of “G-d” in Neil Simon’s “God’s Favorite” my senior year of high school*). The first fifty to be drawn from that Neil Simon-esque hat, will get in to the party.
  3.  I’ll email you back (probably on April 23/24) letting you know that you’re getting a free ticket to the party. Your response to that email may be to A) rejoice, B) shrug with indifference, or C) eat a waffle.
  4. The catch is you can only pick up your ticket at one of the screenings. Which means, that you might as well see the film while you’re at it! But I wouldn’t view that as “a catch” maybe more of an “awesome incidental.” But of course, I’m biased.

Of course, if you want to see the movie in the Boston area, you’d need this information:

Negin Only Gods FavoriteHope that clears up our role in the IFFBoston and its closing night ITA/Nerdcore Rising party.

With a larger sense of clarity,
negin

*I mean, I don’t want to brag but that part landed me the prestigious “Best Actress” trophy in the annual Palm Springs High School Thespian Awards. It would have been unbecoming had I mentioned that in the actual body of the blog – of course not everyone is as fortunate as I am to win the much sought after PSHSTA. But I did feel that it warranted a small utterance in the post-script space. And again, without wanting to brag, a photo of me in that role just seemed necessary. I’m 16 in the photo. And yes, a drama geek of epic proportions.

Atlanta, Boston, etc.

 Nerdcore Peeps,

Just got back from our screening at the Atlanta Film Festival! The city where all streets start with “Peachtree.” Like Peachtree Road which is not to be confused with Peachtree St.., Peachtree Creek or the more historically violent Peachtree Battle, and, of course, Peachtree Peachtree.

I had a terrific time in Atlanta meeting the nerdcore fans and begging them to buy t-shirts. Thank you for not punching me in the face for my repeated t-shirt pimpage. You are a tolerant and Fruit-of-the-Loom loving people.

But guess who was in the audience? This is cool: The editor and associate editor of the show… AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE!! Isn’t that cool? I told you it was cool! One of them (Lear Bunda) had an animated short in the festival called “Hitler’s Brain.” Lear was way rad and is as animated/ridiculous as his job and name suggest. Fun fact about Lear: he’s been a vegetarian his whole life. Hmm… interesting.

His boss at Aqua Teen, a dude named Jay Wade Edwards, made a feature film called “Stomp! Shout! Scream!” – which he affectionately refers to as a “beach town horror flick.” Does that pique your interest? It piqued mine! The good news is that you can buy a DVD of the movie here. Fun fact about Jay: He thinks breezy beach towns are good filming locations for horrible scary creatures!

Because Lear had to run a really mundane and totally boring errand involving a fax machine, a dot-matrix printer, and an abacus, I got to see the Adult Swim offices. Evidence of my alibi is duly provided with the photograph below. The dot-matrix printer is not available for questioning.

Guess what’s next? THE INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL BOSTON! Tickets are on sale and show times are below. BUT, there’s an interesting twist: MC Frontalot and Prince Paul are recreating the magic in a post-show party Sunday night. How were you able to make this happen, Negin? I hear you ask. We got a sponsor! ITA is making it happen. By day, ITA designs software, by night, they support films like Nerdcore Rising. And bless them for it!

The Front & Prince show sorta coincides with the festival’s closing night party (Sunday April 27) so there are some hurdles to getting in. HOWEVER, I have access to 50, count ‘em FIFTY tickets that will get you in to the party FOR FREE. Those free tickets entitle you to: 1) hang out with me… all right, not enticing, I understand, but what about 2) watch MC Frontalot rap his face off… getting warmer right? and what about 3) dance to Prince Paul has he does his remarkable thing in the DJ booth… of course that will hook you in but it doesn’t stop there because 4) you can eat and drink stuff. Awesome right?

How do you get such a free ticket?
1) Email me by April 22 with your name
2) I’ll put your name on a slip of paper PLUS ONE, throw the paper in a hat-like object, the first fifty to be drawn from the hat-like object, will get in to the party.
3) I’ll email you back letting you know that you’re getting a ticket to the party.
4) BUT you can only pick up your ticket at one of the screenings. Which means, well, you might as well see the film while you’re at it.

It seems like a convoluted four-part process but I promise it will work. Hopefully.

I’m leaving massive details below along with pictures and a link to a review we got in Nerdlanta.

AFI Dallas Wrap Report & Atlanta Projections

Dear Shareholders,

Second quarter Nerdcore Rising screenings at AFI Dallas brought tremendous good fortune for Nerdcore Rising Industries, both in terms of brand equity and fun equity.

Sold out houses at the screenings led to an unprecedented upswing in committed Dallas-based fans, insuring future gains in area screenings.

The post-screening MC Frontalot show drew fans into the upper-indices of joy and rapping-alongedness. This is largely due to the total quality management of film sponsor and post-production house REEL FX. Wendy Teague (Supervising Manager of Cool), Kathryn Harper (Managing Director of Awesome Services), Brandon Oldenberg (Vice President of Unbelievably Chill) and Chuck Peil (Executive Vice President of Ridiculously Helpful) provided support services that cannot be quantified at this time because they were: OFF THE CHARTS!

Other items of note: Nerdcore Rising Industries would like to thank Moxygecko & company (from Austin) and the Stephenville 5 (from Stephenville). They imported a set of friendly eyes and enthusiastic/well-functioning ears to the screenings. It is our hope to continue outsourcing “love & support” operations to those two companies.

Retail consumption of t-shirts enjoyed a 1000% gain in Dallas up from zero (… ah… because we had never sold them before). Our retail efforts were so well-received that the web division of Nerdcore Rising Industries will also make them available for sale in the coming day. Literally, like tomorrow.

Future investments include the Atlanta Film Festival where screenings on April 12 & 15 are expected to parallel or even out-perform AFI Dallas. For shareholders interested in going to those screenings, please visit www.atlantafilmfestival.com for ticket information.

The Auditor’s Report of Details is below.

Sincerely Yours,

Negin Farsad
President & CEO of Nerdcore Rising Industries

Do you live in Dallas? Do you heart Nerdcore?

Folks!

If you live in Dallas and have particular proclivities toward a certain subgenre of hip hop populated by a notable subsect of humans, referred to in common parlance as ‘nerds’ –  would you be a dear and join our Dallas street-teaming forces? Street-teaming involves, artful hanging of posters, strategic placement of postcards, and rabid electronic word-spreading. In return, said street-teamer will receive: a t-shirt, entry to the movie, and a kindly/exuberant thanks from one, negin farsad. If you’re interested, hit me up on the emails and make yourself known!

In other American-Film-Institute-Dallas Festival news, here are our screening dates and times:
-Thursday, April 3rd 7:15pm, Angelika 6
-Friday, April 4th 10:00pm, Angelika 7

“What is this Angelika 6 and 7?” I hear you ask. Well, I have no clue. But you can find lots of information here: http://www.afidallas.com/

And now its time for a little braggadocio (AKA more press from SXSW):

  • Cinematical
  • Spout
  • Slash Film
  • Greencine
  • Quirkee.com

Let’s see each other in Dallas – at midnight, in front of the ol’ Ewing ranch. I’ll wear a rose on my lapel. We’ll experience merriment together. What d’ya say?

Lurve,
Negin & Team Nerdcore Rising
